Founded in late 1999, the Public Eye enjoyed a modest beginning with a fortnightly circulation of twelve and a half thousand copies distributed to residents living in Pietermaritzburg’s unassuming eastern suburbs. Quiet beginnings, however, did not imply big plans, and today the hugely popular Public Eye has a print order of 30 000 copies, which are distributed on a weekly basis to both, the eastern suburbs and the northern suburbs. The latter include, amongst others, areas like Bombay Heights, Copesville, Raisethorpe, Panorama Gardens, Woodlands, Eastwood and surrounds.
The Public Eye is a keen supporter of charity events and fundraisers, and, as consequence, is proud to have initiated a very active Corporate Social Investment programme. This has seen the publication teaming-up with a variety of local stakeholders to drive social upliftment projects like the successful Love to Live campaign. More recently, the publication has joined hands with the KwaZulu-Natal local government to promote the Sukuma Sakhe initiative; a much needed and praiseworthy effort to address the social ills of drug abuse and dependency, unplanned teen pregnancies and the vicious cycle of crime.
As a trusted newspaper, the Public Eye continually strives to achieve and maintain the highest standards of professionalism, and as a member of the Pietermaritzburg community, it is just as determined to make a positive impact on society as a whole.
In terms of advertising offerings, the Public Eye’s readership footprint contains the highest density of middle to upper middle income households in the Pietermaritzburg area, and its ABC accredited distribution ensures effective and efficient penetration into its distribution area. This ensures a maximum return on investment for advertisers. Additionally, the Public Eye has developed multimedia advertising packages designed to give advertisers the high level returns expected from a leading news outlet.
