Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, “the place where the sun rises”, is situated in the Northeast of South Africa, bordered by the countries of Mozambique and Swaziland to the East and Gauteng Province to the West. It is a province of spectacular scenic beauty and an abundance of wildlife. The southern half of the magnificent Kruger National Park, teeming with African wildlife, lies in the Eastern region of Mpumalanga.
With a total area of 76 495 square kilometres it is the second-smallest province after Gauteng, and takes up 6.3 % of South Africa’s land area. Mpumalanga enjoys a population of just over 4 million people. Nearly a third of the people in the region speak siSwati, the language of neighbouring Swaziland, and isiZulu, Xistonga and isiNdebele are commonly heard.
The network of excellent roads and railway connections, as well as a number of small airports, including Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, makes Mpumalanga highly accessible. Spectacular Tourist attractions such as the 3000 million year old Sudwala Caves, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window, The Three Rondavels, numerous historical sites and the world-renowned Kruger National Park attract thousands of visitors from South African and abroad.
